Cafeteria by Robert James Reese
The Cafeteria is not just a place to get a food, but it is
also a place to have social interactions with others. It seems to be that
college students spend the most time here, because they don’t have a kitchen or
a place to cook. This is why they spend
a good amount of time here. What seem important about going to the
cafeteria is that is all starts with an invitation of someone asking you or yourself asking them if they want to go and grab something to eat. Even though it is fine to go to the cafeteria
alone occasionally, people don’t want to do it too often because it can make
them seem anti socials. It seems that it is just a place to go and get food but
it is where students come together and form their own social groups.
Being in a Cafeteria is a place where social barriers begin.
People judge you on not just the people that you are with but where you also
decide to sit. People sitting in the back corners are not seen
to be as social as those sitting in the middle. The cafeteria is, designed for
the social interaction. It contains isolated back areas where unsociable
students can sit to avoid interaction, and larger tables for people who want to
be social can sit with a large group of friends. Then there are the people who
do not want to be sitting alone because of what others will think of them. They feel that it okay for it to happen once
in awhile but if it keeps happening people with start to think bad of you and
that your are antisocial.
Majority of people see the Cafeteria as a place to just eat, but
it is a place where people’s social interactions are judge on who they are
with. From what I’ve seen this is a place where everyone comes together but
then it is broken down into social groups from there.
